Several readers ask me for a recommendation regarding good VPS provider(s). So in this page I will list several VPS providers which I think having good service, great server performance, and maximum uptime. I will try to update this page each time I found a great VPS hosting service that you and me can rely on. So do not forget to bookmark this page.
#1. Digital Ocean
visit: https://www.digitalocean.com/
This service is a cloud-based VPS provider. The main advantages of cloud vps hosting is its elasticity as well as its billing system or how they charge you for using their service. Instead of charged monthly, Digital Ocean (DO) charge your hourly. It means you can simply deploy a new droplet (vps node) to learn something then destroy it when you finish or don’t need it any more. That way you don’t have to spend more than $3 just to play around with Linux VPS and learn something. However their plans start from $0.007/hour or $5 for a month (you’ll get 512MB of RAM, 20GB fast SSD storage, 1 CPU power, and 1TB of bandwidth). It means if you deploy that vps and play around with it for a full day long (24 hours), you’ll only be charged for $0.168 (that less than $1). What can you do with it for 24 hours? Well lets say, learning how to install LAMP, how to install Nginx, OpenVPN, etc.
Personally, DO is really my favorite. The very best part, price of DO’s VPS plans are cheaper compared to similar cloud hosting service like Linode and AWS EC2. With Amazon’s $24 per month you’ll get 1.7 GB of memory, 1 EC2 Compute Unit (1 virtual core with 1 EC2 Compute Unit), 160 GB of local instance storage plus additional cost for the bandwidth. Linode is another, with $20 per month you’ll get 1GB of memory, 24 GB RAID Storage, 8 cores with lowest priority, 2 TB data transfer included. Additional data at $0.10 per GB. And here it is with DO, for the same $20/month you’ll get 2GB memory, 2 cores, 40 GB SSD storage, 3 TB transfer included, additional data transfer $0.02 per GB. Go ahead try DigitalOcean.
#2. RamNode
visit: http://www.ramnode.com/
RamNode is a low-end VPS hosting provider run by RamNode LLC. It is an established VPS provider offering stable and fast virtual private servers powered with SSD and Cached-SSD with datacenter located at Atlanta and Seattle. Being a “Low End” vps provider, their service is really beyond the price. I mean they are great and their servers are awesome. Their VPS plans offer both fast SSD and Cached-SSD with OpenVZ or KVM virtualization (you can choose). You get more disk space with SSD cached, because SSD disks are used with a cache compared to all SSD disks. You get a lot for what you pay. Personally, I am a happy customer. I did not trust that “we are fast” but the vps does have a fast I/O. Altlanta has got good routings to Buffalo, NY, Chicago, Austin, etc. Try it and you’ll feel the power of SSD-based VPS. You’ll receive the same speeds with SSD cached versus SSD “pure” but with cached, you receive more disk space which is great for large MySQL databases or web applications you want to run with SSD disks.
Ramnode.com has got a new DC, new servers, new technology (KVM) and SSD Cached plans. You get allot for your money. You have the choice between really fast pure SSD plans with up to 966 MB/S disk speeds (SSD) and slightly slower SSD cached plans with lot more disk space and disk speeds around 700-800 MB/s. So visit RamNode now and get your fast stable VPS there. You may also want to check their last Coupon code to get discounted price.
#3. ChicagoVPS
#3. BuyVM
BuyVM has recently initiated an upgrade of their servers, giving everybody free upgrades to SSD disk space. They are a long well established vps provider offering unbeatable performance. Their newly features include: free nightly backups and snapshot support. Visit BuyVM.
#4. Atlantic.net
Atlantic.net is a cloud server provider offering faster provisioning time (within 30 seconds). Their cloud infrastructure is rock solid. Yet, while others have hourly billing, Atlantic.net has per second billing. You can read my post about my first hand on with their server. All plans use SSD and have unlimited inbound and up to 7TB of outbound data transfer is included for free.
#5. Crissic
Read: Crissic review and promos.
#6. OVH Kimsufi
OVH Kimsufi is not offering VPS plans but you can grab world’s cheapest Dedicated server ever (under £3/month). Read: First In The World! €2.99/month Dedicated Server by OVH Kimsufi.
#7. INIZ and OpenVZ.IO
Iniz aka StormVZ is really high quality VPS provider which is now having OpenVZ.IO as sister brand. Read: INIZ Review, Promos and Coupon Codes here.
#8. Prometeus, iPerWeb, iWStack, Overzold
Prometeus aka iPerWeb, a VPS hosting provider plays at all segment of market including: professional, low end, high availability, and cloud. Their network and servers are tuned specifically for maximum performance, and their policies ensure that we remain as efficient as possible. They always get great positive reviews from low end community. In the last years they started offering virtualized services (Xen, KVM, OpenVZ and Vmware) and expanded their infrastructure to include a high performance, high reliable SAN infrastructure and multiple gigabit connections. Their brands / services including: Prometeus (main), iperweb, OverZold (cheap high RAM vps), and of course iwstack (Cloud kvm).
#9. EDIS & WaveRide
Edis is also a well-known and reputable provider. They even offer VPS at unique locations in Europe including Sweden, Poland, Romania, Isle of Man and Austria. Visit Edis here.
#10. VPSDime, Winity and Backupsy
VPSDime mainly offers high RAM and big storage vps. They also get good reputation in low end world. VPSDime’s sister brands including Winity (Windows) and Backpsy (high storage). Currently available locations: Dallas, New Jersey and California. Their node’s specs are pretty awesome: Dual Intel Xeon E5 or Xeon Westreme CPUs, 384GB DDR3 RAM, 8 x 10K RPM HDDs RAID10 or 8 x SATA3 SSD RAID10 or 8 x 7200 RPM HDDs RAID10 + 4 x 240GB SSD RAID10 for caching Visit VPSDime.
#11. Vultr
Vultr is a new comer in KVM cloud-like vps provider to counter Digital Ocean. They are using fast SSD and servers located in 12 worldwide datacenter. Read my review about Vultr or visit it directly.
#12. Bandwagon Host
Bandwagon Host is a premium service with low end price from IT7 Networks. The brand has been getting so much attention and respect especially from Low End Community. The quality is very good. While many other providers use SolusVM, Bandwagon Host is using KiwiVM as the control panel software to manage your VPS. What I like is its feature to take snapshot backup, a feature that is usually available only in big player like DO. Remember it is OpenVZ. Really recommended. Visit Bandwagon Host.

Got your own opinion or do you know any other great VPS providers? Go ahead share it with us and other readers in the comment section below.
If you visit lowendbox or lowendtalk, the winner of Q1 2013 is Prometeus 😉
Update for the winner of Q2 2013 by lowendbox poll, the number one is RamNode 🙂
Slicify has a bunch of Linux VPS for free at the moment (can’t beat the price!)
Digital Ocean is a win for me, I hope it becomes winner of Q3 on lowendbox. I’ve tried RamNode but I honestly can’t tell the difference in terms of speed with the switch from HDD to SSD.
I think ServerMania is a great provider. They have instant chat support and a phone number that you can call to talk to a real person. They clearly like to take care of their clients’ needs and make sure that they are reachable through different channels.
Agree. I do have one box with them and the uptime is impressive. Also, their I/O is pretty good even it is not SSD.
use this link to order in servermania: http://www.servermania.com/linux-ssd-cached-vps-specials.htm

Linode ?
Linode is great, their servers also great but the price is just too expensive for me. It’s not a LEB provider.
Linode pricing is on par with DO but with higher specs. They also launched a Singapore region this year.
Curious why you marked out ChicagoVPS
chicagovps is real shitty service.
if u rebuild ur vps u have to mail them to get the new root passowrd. i just wait 5 hour for that and get it now.
now u can understand what kind of service !!!
thanks for your honest review
I couldn’t agree more!
Hello Sawiyati,
first of all nice blog for newbies like me 🙂
I think OVH VPS is cheaper then anyone with 100 mbps ports .
With plans starting under 3 USD’s.
Any thoughts on VPSDime? Sawiyati please add a review for that.
VPSDime not good, they will kick you off if you get a DDoS and will tell you to move somewhere else. Also they limit how much emails you send out I think 100 in 1hr.
Plus if they load of 4.00 stays for 60min they auto restart the server.
Not good, find a better host.
Just want to second the above opinion. I recently picked up a server with vpsdime and was excited to have a 6gb cloud box….. but then….. I noticed that I was on kernel 2.6. What good is 6gb if you can’t do anything with it?
I just bought a box from Virtono and I’m impressed.
Now DigitalOcean is the worst vps provider
My account is locked after pay $5 one time credit via paypal.
What a bad provider
Have you tried to submit ticket asking what was causing you getting suspended/locked?
Nice list, i use Digital ocean
I chance upon your website and I must say I have benefited much from your “How to” articles!
I’m currently considering DigitalOcean to host my new website but my concern is that they do not offer fail-over for their droplets..
At the same time, I’m also evaluating another provider – SimplerCloud (http://www.simplercloud.com)
which offers High-Availability fail-over of their VPS.
Though there isnt much review on them. Do you have any opinion on SimplerCloud?
Thanks!
Marc,
Thanks for letting know about simplercloud.com. It has same spec as digitalocean.
I could not find High-Availability fail-over feature on their website.
i want a hosting company which is not big but service is average but price is low. like bluevm.com or nibshost.com
I was with 3 of this list and there was a downtime of all three. Am with misterhost.net for 3 months and there is no downtime until now.
You should checkout httpzoom.com we have affordabled 128Mb and 512Mb VPS servers as as low as £16/yr. Lots of bandwidth and capacity
Nice list, but it seems that none of the VPS providers on this list offers fully managed support for free. I really like that feature especially at https://rosehosting.com. I think you should add them to this list.
@Ray – In the real world, there’s honestly no such thing as “free” – at the end of the day, you’re paying for it, one way or another. You mention RoseHosting however, as of this post, comparing their pricing to both those on and off the list provided, they’re more expensive.
As an example, I’ll use DigitalOcean (more so as I have the most experience with them since I’ve been with them for a while).
@DigitalOcean – $10 / month
– 1GB RAM, 1 CPU Core, 30GB SSD, 2TB BW
@RoseHosting – $21.95 / month
– 1GB RAM, 2 CPU Core, 30GB SSD, 2TB BW
So the extra CPU Core + Added Services, when compared to DigitalOcean, cost an extra $11.95/month.
If you jump up to the next plan, the cost is $20 vs $43.95 (with the differences being an extra 20GB Disk + 1TB BW) making it +$23.95.
I’m not saying RoseHosting is bad, and I’m only mentioning them based on your comment. I have zero experience with them – and this isn’t a review, just pointing out that “free” should be used sparingly, especially when it comes to anything tech related :).
good pov 🙂
I use TransIP myself, and really like that I don’t have to wait for support to do anything.
My vote used to go to Vultr, but TransIP’s PureSSD really has become competitive indeed. And their support does rock.
I used http://www.quadcone.com since 2013 great support over there 🙂
the prices seem beyond LEB 🙁
I come from China, I need to look at under $5 cloud hosting in January, only look at the cloud host.
Please check this page.
Also, can we share your wordpress template?
Why is ChicagoVPS crossed out?
Because is a bad provider, stay way from then!!!
can you list for dedicated also.
How come Linode isn’t on the list?
That was because I saw their cheaper price is $20/month so I don’t think Linode is at lowend segment. But now I see the $10/month plan is now available
Its time for a review 🙂
good review……
Ini saya aja ya yang komentar pakai Bahasa Indonesia.
Hahaha…
Pertama kali pakai VPS pakai ChicagoVPS, hampir 2 tahun malahan. Tapi semakin ke sini performanya jelek, apalagi supportnya Bu.
Pas ajalah dicoret dari list sampean 🙂
Sekarang saya pakai Digital Ocean & RAM Node.
🙂 Kalo DO, biarpun ada hourly billing tapi tetep biaya per-bulannya fixed.
BTW, mbak Sawiyati udah pernah coba pake server saya? 🙂 *nama provider-nya gak usah disebut ya takut disangka ngiklan, tapi sempet disebut juga sih sama salah satu komentar diatas* 🙂 🙂
Belum pernah pak Indra. Quote dr situsnya “Actual price is rounded to the nearest second. For example if you only use the service for 47 seconds you are only billed for 47 seconds of usage!”
Well, I wish I could have an opportunity to try your server 🙂
mbak, saya pakai INIZ bagaimana menurut mbak mengenai Server Yang di sediakan Oleh INIZ ???
It is good actually. However, their price range is now not as cheap as before. But performance wise, yes their service is great.
Vultr is cool, free snapshots (by now), and free ISO upload, so you can test almost everything you can boot. Note: Custom ISO needs to be packed with virtio.
Aside that, I’ve see a nice plans, balancing power/capacity… so you can run instances for long data store and instances for fast processing.
If you plan to host by example… bitcoin (or other) wallets, you’ll need A LOT of HDD space. 125Gb VPS just for 5$/month.
This kind of details makes Vultr one of best choices.
VPSDime is only friendly when everything is running smoothly. I asked to upgrade and was told my data would not be kept then received conflicting information saying it would at a later date. I was a customer for a year or more and late 17 days in which I contacted them saying that I intend to pay. They terminated my service and deleted all my data. That was fine it was my fault I was late so I requested they remove my personal information including name, address, credit info etc. Alex was rude and instead of telling me once they had expired the reasons for keeping my personal information that they would delete instead they told me they did not have to. I copied some data privacy and retention documentation and informed them that I wanted my data deleted as soon as it was no longer needed by tax purposes. At this point they chose to delete my account so I could not respond, but keep my personal information. I will be contacting the Office of the Data Protection.
I find this very unprofessional and will not recommend VPSDime.
It should use vps at wable.com? Thanks!
How’s SeedVPS.com?
hello,my recomendations goes to http://www.scaleway.com as far what they sugest and price is very friendly.Plans begins from 2.99€/month.
